Construction Project Data

Capturing construction project data is one of the most important things that you can do as an Owner or just as a member of any construction team. But most people fail to see the value or importance of capturing project data.

So the question is, why should you capture all your construction project data?

Well, simply put, you need the data to work for you at some point. It’s easiest to start when you have the most possible data readily available. Ideally, this information should be at your fingertips from your project closeout.

However, it is never too late to start tracking this data for your facility.

It’s a guarantee that at some point, you will need to analyze your facility for potential upgrades, maintenance, or even for regulatory compliance issues that may arise in the future.

Let’s face it, if you wait to do these tasks, it may become a massive challenge for you. For instance, if five years pass, it’s likely that the people involved in the project have moved on. Not to mention that they’ve moved on with your construction project data and may or may not still have access to it.

Wouldn’t it be valuable to ensure that all the detailed project data of your facility doesn’t walk out the door with those people? Having access to this critical information will allow you to have the protection, with documentation, readily available if needed in the event that you are audited by the government or even your shareholders. Not to mention that you have a legal requirement to maintain ALL renovation or new construction documentation. You can efficiently plan for the future by forecasting with analytical data. Everything has a shelf life or life cycle. You shouldn’t wait for some kind of failure with equipment to occur, for you to then have to react in some way. Having real data available to you is imperative so that you have realistic expectations as to how long the life of equipment or other aspects of your facility have left. At a minimum, having this analytical data at your fingertips will allow you to have very meaningful conversations with your facility maintenance team. Your ability to have all the construction project data is the foundation and starting point for these conversations!
